Hello!
I am Karen Blase, math teacher for 6th, 7th and 8th Grades. I am very excited about it, because math is my passion!
I earned my BS in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University. This is my 42nd year of teaching at Divine Providence School! I began the Pre-Kindergarten/ Kindergarten Program in 1978. I also taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math and Reading and, for 28 years, I taught second grade. I spent a summer teaching Algebra to high school students as well.
Divine Providence School is close to my heart for several reasons. I am a 1970 graduate of DP. It was when I was a junior high student here that I was inspired to be a teacher. I made up my mind that I wanted to help students learn while encouraging them to reach their potential. My own 3 children, who are now adults, are also graduates of Divine Providence School.
My philosophy about teaching is that every child has the ability to learn, but each student has his/her own timetable of reaching certain goals. I hope to be able to challenge those who are excelling and provide time to work with those who need assistance in reaching their goals. I strive to make my classroom a place of happiness, while imparting a love of math to my students.
A specific part of my philosophy about teaching math is that a student needs to master one math concept before moving on to a new concept. Therefore, I give students chances to retake tests, with the expectations that the student will eventually master the concepts.
